The Bloodhound Project has announced that Rolex will join as its Official Timing Partner.
Bloodhound Project Director, Richard Noble said: "I am delighted to welcome Rolex to the team. It is hugely important that a brand of its pedigree become a partner in this project, especially considering Rolex's history of supporting record-breaking endeavours now and in the past."
The 1,000mph (1,609km/h) Land Speed Record attempt team, led by Richard Noble OBE and Wing Commander Andy Green OBE (the current world record holder), have joined forces with the Swiss watchmaker who becomes a substantial sponsor of the project.
The structure of Bloodhound SSC is being built at the moment and trials are due to start early in 2012. Wing Commander Green is in a confident mood: "I'm enormously proud that I'll be wearing a Rolex on my wrist when we go for the record. It will take 3.6 seconds to cover the Measured Mile, and then the team will race like hell to get the car turned around for a return run within the hour with the world watching."
Individuals can help to sponsor the team by joining the 'Bloodhound SSC 1K Club'. Further details can be found at www.bloodhoundssc.com.
