Official: SLS AMG Roadster in detail

Mercedes-Benz has released images of its showroom-ready SLS AMG Roadster for the first time.

Those gullwing doors might be the SLS's signature feature, but that's not stopped Mercedes-Benz clipping them to create an SLS AMG Roadster.

The new model brings even more glamour to the SLS range, opening up the big supercar's interior to the sun - and for those in cooler climes there's the option of Merc's strange 'Airscarf' neck heating system.

Opening its top in just eleven seconds at speeds up to 31mph, the SLS Roadster will reach UK showrooms by November this year. There's no firm price information, but suffice to say there'll be a decent-sized premium over the SLS coupe's price tag.

For that you not only get the folding roof, but a new high performance media system, which provides high-speed internet access along with lap time, acceleration and engine details.

Despite losing its roof Mercedes claims that the Roadster has only gained 40kg in total, with just 2kg of that accounted for in the aluminium body.

The weight increase has done nothing to the performance figures, as the SLS AMG Roadster reaches 100km/h in 3.8 seconds from rest and tops out at an electronically limited 317km/h top speed.

Unusually, the folding roof has little impact on luggage space either, as the Roadster loses just three litres of boot space in comparison to its coupé relative.

Get your order in now for that November delivery, just when you'll be wanting a 580hp rear-wheel drive roadster...
