Chrysler Ypsilon unveiled

The Lancia-derived Chrysler Ypsilon has been revealed and will sell from less than €13,000.

Chrysler has taken the wraps off its new Ypsilon supermini and it will be on sale in Ireland in October. Prices for the Lancia-based Ypsilon have yet to be confirmed but they will start from less than €13,000.

The five-door Ypsilon weighs in at just 965kg and comes with the choice of two petrol engines and one turbodiesel. Petrol units are taken care of by the entry-level 1.2-litre with 70hp and the more powerful TwinAir motor with 85bhp despite its smaller 875cc capacity.

A 1.3-litre turbodiesel with 95hp is the other engine option and, like the petrol motors, comes with stop-start to cut the engine when the car is stationary. All Ypsilon models will also come with low rolling-resistance tyres and a gear shift indicator. This helps all Ypsilon models sold in Ireland to fall into Band A for tax purposes.

Chrysler is pitching the Ypsilon as a luxury small car and it's expected every version sold in Ireland will come with electric front windows, air conditioning and height adjustable driver's seat. Top of the range models will also have alloy wheels, foglights and rear electric windows. Every model should come with six airbags, ESP stability control, Xenon headlights and Hill-Holder included in the price.
