Nissan is entering its electric LEAF in the Pikes Peak hillclimb with its veteran off-road champion Chad Hord at the wheel.
The LEAF will run in the production car class, so it will be almost completely standard other than for safety features such as a roll cage, full harnesses and fire extinguisher. Much of the interior will also be removed to make the car lighter and quicker.
For the Pikes Peak event, held on 26 June in Colorado, the LEAF will use the same 108hp electric motor as standard road versions.
Ron Stukenberg, of Nissan Motorsports, said: "Nissan is committed to taking an innovative approach to showcasing the Nissan LEAF and Pikes Peak is an excellent venue to do just that. Nissan LEAF owners are fully embracing this new world of zero-emission technology. We believe the same potential exists in the motorsports world, and we're proud to be one of the first on the grid."
