Nissan has updated its Micra supermini for the 2021 model year, simplifying the trim range line-up and adding more choices for consumers.
Trim line-up expanded
A five-grade structure will come into force on the Micra Mk5, with Visia, Acenta and Tekna specifications joined by N-Design and N-Sport. Some of these will come with LED headlights as standard when they didn't previously, although all variants will have the ability to be upgraded to LED lights. There are also fresh 16-inch two-tone alloy wheels, called 'Genki', on both N-Design and Tekna grades, while Micra buyers can opt for two different colour customisation finishers for the outside of the car in N-Design.
The N-Sport trim, which was introduced in 2019 with Nissan's move to add the new 1.0-litre petrol turbo engine to the Micra range, was previously a special order here in Ireland but it continues as the de facto 'performance' model of the range, with Gloss Black exterior detailing, black 17-inch Perso alloy wheels and full LED lighting at the front of the car as standard. Inside, the seats have Alcantara inserts and the same material can be found on the dashboard, too.
The N-Design, meanwhile, offers the choice of either Gloss Black or Chrome detailing for the rear, front and side finishers, as well as the door-mirror caps, while there are the Genki alloys and, inside, black cloth seats with grey accents plus leather-look detailing for the dash fascia, kneepads and door trims. Optionally, an Energy Orange interior is also available.
Beyond this, all grades from Visia upwards gain enhanced active safety technology and the aforementioned 1.0-litre turbocharged three-cylinder petrol engine is both Euro-6d-compliant and is said to have a revised torque curve, as well.
'Micra is stronger than ever'
Ekaterina Apushkina, general manager of marketing for city cars for Nissan Europe, said: "With the refreshed line-up for 2021, we have refined what we know people love about Micra. We've made it easier for customers to match themselves to the ideal grade and to then add their own unique flair through customisation options on top By building on its success, and listening to our customers, we've arrived at a place where Micra is stronger than ever."
