Sharp creases and a more angular look are the order of the day for the next Toyota Yaris as the first images leak out.
Sieve-like security apart, Toyota is close to launching the European-spec Yaris, which will weigh at least 30kg less than its predecessor. The new Yaris is also 100mm longer, 20mm lower and has a wheelbase some 50mm longer than the outgoing generation.
The extra space will make the Yaris one of the roomiest superminis, but Toyota is aiming for class-leading economy with help from two new petrol engines. They are a 70hp 1.0-litre and a 1.3-litre unit with 95hp. Diesel and hybrid power will also be options after the initial launch.
Inside, the next Toyota Yaris is more traditional than its predecessor, placing the main instrument binnacle directly in front of the driver. Top spec models will come with a touch-screen to work the satellite navigation and other functions.
No word on prices or specifications yet from Toyota, but expect these to follow soon now the first images have been leaked out. The new Yaris should be on sale in Ireland by the start of 2012.
