For anyone who feels that Ferraris in general have become a bit big and bulky-looking of late (yes, new Puro Sangue, we're looking at you...) then we have the antidote. The SP48 Unica.
It doesn't take an Italian language expert to translate Unica to 'unique' and that's exactly what it is - a one-off, made for a wealthy customer (not that Ferrari has any other kind...) and specially designed by the Ferrari Design Centre.
As with most 'SP' (Special Projects - Ferrari's bespoke vehicle department) badged Ferraris, this one is the work of Flavio Manzoni, Chief Design Officer for the prancing horse brand. The Unica is described as having an 'arrow-shaped front profile' which necessitated creating new headlights and moving the brake ducts.
In fact, the entire front end of the Unica has been completely redesigned, using what Ferrari describes as 'procedural-parametric modelling techniques and 3D prototyping.' If you reckon it looks a bit like an F8 Tributo that's had its body vacuum-packed down onto the structure, you won't find any arguments here.
At the back, there's no rear screen (Ferrari doesn't say so, but we assume there'll be a rearview camera system in the cockpit), just a body panel that flows from the roof into the rear spoiler, which of course is made of carbon fibre.
Down the sides, there are new intakes for engine cooling, while the turbo's intercoolers have been moved up nearer the side windows to make them easier to cool with smaller air inlets.
Inside, the cabin gets lashings of grey Alcantara with little highlight flashes of the orangey exterior paint scattered about. It looks impressive, even though it's basically the same as that of the F8.
