AA Ireland has announced that the inaugural AA Ireland Car Awards will take place in October, with some of Ireland's best-known and most experienced motoring journalists choosing the best cars across a range of categories as well as for the overall best model launched in the last 12 months.
Wide range of categories
The categories for the awards will include three separate categories for electric vehicles (sponsored by Ohme Car Chargers) and the jury will vote in 14 categories in total including: Best City Car, Best Supermini, Best Family Hatchback, Best Large Family Car, Best Small Crossover, Best Medium Crossover, Best Large Crossover, Best Performance Car, Best Compact Executive, Best Large Executive, Best Budget EV, Best Family EV, Best Executive/Luxury EV and, finally, the overall winner.
Apart from the overall winner, which must have been launched in the last year, cars in the other categories are eligible to win as long as they're currently on sale.
"AA Ireland is delighted to be inviting some of Ireland's best motoring journalists from the most well-known and well-read publications to vote on these new awards, which will be a handy tool for consumers making new car choices in the Irish market," said Paddy Comyn, head of communications at AA Ireland.
"The jury on these awards command the biggest audiences and are among the most well-respected within their fields."
Experienced jury
The panel of twelve journalists is drawn from a range of media outlets across print, web and video and includes three of CompleteCar.ie's very own writers: Dave Humphreys, Shane O' Donoghue and Neil Briscoe, who, along the other jury members, will draw on their experience of having tested hundreds of new cars over the last year to choose an overall winner, as well as voting for the best cars in each of the individual categories.
The awards will be announced on October 7.
