Volkswagen Ireland is expanding the hugely popular ID.4 electric SUV lineup with a new, smaller-battery model.
Held back by chip shortage
The 52kWh battery version of the ID.4 had been promised as a base model when the car was initially launched, but it never materialised as Volkswagen streamlined the model lineup in response to the global microchip shortage.
With production strictures easing, we can finally have the entry-level model of the ID.4, which boasts a 357km maximum range on a full charge. That's comparable with the basic version of the Hyundai Ioniq 5, which gets 385km from a 58kWh battery.
Available and in stock
The base ID.4 price starts at €44,343`, and Volkswagen Ireland says it's in stock now and available for more or less immediate delivery. On a VW Bank PCP finance deal, you could potentially put one on your driveway for €359 per month.
If you need a longer range, then the existing 77kWh battery version of the ID.4 continues on sale with a maximum range of 525km and is priced from €51,440, with PCP repayments starting from €449 per month. Again, in contrast to the restrictions on deliveries seen in the past couple of years, that model is in stock and available for more or less immediate delivery.
Additional supply
"The ID.4 is a hugely popular EV model among Irish consumers, and has been the best-selling fully electric vehicle in Ireland for the past two years. Catering and adapting to our customer's needs and demands is extremely important to us at Volkswagen Ireland and we're delighted to further strengthen the ID.4's positioning by offering the second 52kWh battery option, giving our consumers more choice when finding the ID.4 that's perfect for them" said Roldolfo Calixto, Volkswagen Brand Director for Ireland. "What's more, not only have we increased the ID.4 battery options for our customers, we have decreased wait times too. We appreciate numerous external factors have contributed to increased wait times over the last few years for our customers. We have, and continue to work to mitigate the impact of these external factors and are pleased to have secured delivery of additional supply of this fantastic all-electric SUV. We are confident this will help making the move to an all-electric Volkswagen even easier."
