Polestar 4 to debut in Shanghai

The Polestar 4 will make its global debut at the Shanghai motor show (remember motor shows?) on the 18th of April.

Enhanced by modern technology

Polestar, spun off from Volvo by the Swedish company's Chinese owners, Geely, as a high-performance and electric brand, has said that the new 4: "has taken the SUV coupé and transformed it for the electric age. Polestar 4 marries the aerodynamics of a coupé with the space of an SUV in a package enhanced by modern technology."

On top of that, the 4 will be Polestar's fastest car to date - quite some boast when you remember that the heart-stoppingly gorgeous Polestar 1 hybrid coupe had 600hp at its disposal.

New breed of SUV coupe

"Polestar 4 is not simply a modified version of our first SUV. Instead, we reconsidered the entire design to create a new breed of SUV coupé," says Thomas Ingenlath, Polestar CEO.

The 4 will slot into the range between the existing (and just updated) Polestar 2 sports saloon and the larger, more luxurious, and massively expensive Polestar 3, which was first shown late last year.

The 4 will be much sleeker and lower-slung than the larger, more spacious 3 and will have quite a low roofline, pitching it against the incoming all-electric Porsche Macan. That much-delayed Porsche will have more than 600hp in its most potent form (with rumours of a 750hp Turbo S model in the works) and a potential range of more than 600km with the largest battery, so these are the kind of performance metrics that Polestar will be aiming.

How much?

The Polestar 4 will go into production later this year and should be on sale in Ireland in the first half of 2024. At what price? Well, the Polestar 2 tops out at around €70,000, and the new Polestar 3 starts at €99,900 in Ireland, so somewhere between those two points would be our best guess...
