Here's the answer to a future pub quiz question: where and when was the 100,000th Polestar sold? The answer to the when is; 'just now.' The answer to the where is Ireland. Specifically, Castleknock in west Dublin.
Thunder paintwork
Tony Lanigan, a resident of that area, is the lucky man whose Polestar 2 electric saloon was the 100,000th car off the production lines of the youthful company. A spinoff from Volvo, owned and funded by giant Chinese carmaker Geely, and built in China, the 100,000th car is finished in the dark-blue-grey 'Thunder' paint, and its new owner couldn't be more pleased.
Clarity on carbon footprint
Lanigan, who works at CT (Creative Technology) Ireland, is leasing the Polestar 2 via LeasePlan and, at the handover ceremony in Polestar's outlet in Sandyford, he said: "I'm thrilled to be the lucky driver of this special Polestar 2. At CT Ireland, sustainability is very important to us, and we wanted to reflect that in the cars we drive. We want our employees to drive the most sustainable vehicles possible. Transparency is key, and the fact every car comes with a lifecycle analysis and information on all the raw materials that go into Polestar 2 gives us clarity on our footprint.
"I've been following the brand for a while now and was impressed by their focus on sustainability, particularly having significantly reduced the carbon footprint of Polestar 2 since going into production. It's a very intuitive car with a fantastic interface, probably the best I've experienced in terms of the current EV landscape, and I'm proud to be part of the Polestar family."
Decals and design book
The car itself is that little bit more special than your average Polestar 2 - it gets special door decals and comes with a book of Polestar designs and sketches signed by the company CEO Thomas Ingenlath.
"We're excited to have delivered the 100,000th produced Polestar 2, especially since it happened to be a car destined for Ireland and an Irish customer," says Kieran Campbell, Market Lead for Polestar in Ireland.
