New Toyota Prius launches in Ireland

Deliveries of Toyota's new Prius will commence in July.

Toyota Ireland has confirmed pricing for its new, fifth-generation Prius ahead of the start of Irish deliveries in July as the registration plate changes to '232'. It will be priced from €45,900.

The new Prius - which was first unveiled at the 2022 Los Angeles Auto Show - features an eye-catching redesign and a new powertrain ahead of its introduction. It will be sold exclusively in plug-in hybrid format on the Irish market.

After its arrival, the new Prius will be one of just two PHEVs in the Toyota line-up - the other being the RAV4 Plug-In Hybrid, though Toyota has already confirmed that an all-new C-HR is in the pipeline with a plug-in hybrid powertrain.

Alongside an efficient 2.0-litre petrol engine, the electric side of the Prius includes a 13.6kWh lithium-ion battery, enough for an official 71km in electric mode on a single charge. Peak power is quoted as 223hp, and the Prius dispatches the 0-100km/h time in just 6.8 seconds. That's despite ultra-low emissions likely to mean an annual motor tax bill of just €140.

Detailed specifications have yet to be released, but Toyota Ireland has confirmed that the Prius comes equipped with 19-inch alloy wheels, heated and ventilated front seats, and Toyota's Smart Connect multimedia system.

Ahead of customer deliveries in July, the new Prius will be showcased at the Bloom gardening festival, held in Dublin's Phoenix Park from the 1st - 5th of June.

"The Toyota Prius has been one of the most iconic vehicles in our brand's history," said Zoe Bradley, head of marketing communications and corporate affairs at Toyota Ireland.

"We are so excited to announce that a new fifth-generation Prius will be arriving to Irish shores in July of this year exclusively as a plug-in hybrid."

Since the Prius' release in 1997, more than five million units have been sold around the world.
