Alfa Romeo asks fans for new car’s name

Alfa Romeo has used its social media channels to let fans suggest a name for its new model.

Alfa Romeo has taken to social media to ask its fans - or 'Alfisti' - what its newest car should be called, in an effort to "get its community involved from the outset."

In a series of posts across various social media platforms, the Italian carmaker said that "a game-changing #SportyUrbanVehicle is on the horizon. What will be the name of our new Alfa Romeo?"

With its two SUV models, the Stelvio and Tonale, Alfa Romeo chose the names of two Italian mountain passes, after the brand's so-called "renaissance" that started after the release of the Giulia.

The newest car was widely rumoured to be called the "Brennero" online, after an Italian municipality, though Alfa Romeo management has since denied the rumours, telling its fans "not to worry".

New Alfa Romeo - what we know

The new model has been dubbed "Kid" in-house and is expected to be what Alfa Romeo calls a "Sport Urban Vehicle," to fit alongside the Giulia saloon, the compact Tonale SUV and the larger Stelvio SUV.

It will also debut as a fully-electric vehicle - as part of Alfa Romeo's "metamorphosis," which started with the introduction of the Tonale as the first hybrid-powered Alfa Romeo.

Alfa Romeo has confirmed that the model will debut in early 2024, though it is hesitant to confirm any details about the specifications or features, only saying that the car will be "positioned at the apex of the premium segment."

It is expected to fit into Alfa's range as a smaller version of the Tonale.

Though the Alfa will use the Stellantis Group's 'CMP' platform - which is also used on cars such as the Peugeot 2008 - Jean-Philippe Imparato - Alfa Romeo's CEO - has promised that the upcoming model will still have "the driveability of an Alfa".
