Toyota launches ‘Hybrid Nation’ competition

Toyota hybrid owners could be in with a chance to win a €200 prize.

Toyota's 'Hybrid Nation' initiative returns for a second year - with drivers of the Japanese brand's hybrid models being in with a chance to win a €200 voucher.

Owners of new examples of the hybrid-powered C-HR, Corolla, Yaris and Yaris Cross can take part in the competition by taking a photo of their car's 'EV Drive Time' reading at the end of a trip. Simply send it to Toyota Ireland, and a €200 voucher could be yours.

Toyota's 'Hybrid Nation' - how it works

Intended to promote the benefits of switching to hybrid power, last year's Hybrid Nation showed just how far Toyota's hybrid technology has improved in recent years - with some participants' readouts showing that 76 per cent of their journeys were driven in zero-emission EV mode.

Longer journeys over motorways and country roads showed some impressive numbers, too - with 60 per cent of driving done in EV mode.

"We believe that hybrid electric is the ideal way to switch from a petrol or diesel car to a more sustainable way of motoring without compromise, but we know that more awareness is needed in Ireland about the true benefits of hybrid electric driving," said Lauren Hennessy, marketing communications manager at Toyota Ireland.

"That is really what inspired the idea of Hybrid Nation. Some people believe hybrid electric cars need to be plugged in to charge, and many are unaware of just how far one of our new generation hybrid electrics can take them in full electric mode with zero emissions."

The competition is open to all drivers of non-plug-in Toyota hybrid-electric models that can show the 'EV Drive Time' readout.

Toyota's hybrid range - an Irish success story

One of the earliest adopters of hybrid technology, Toyota's hybrid line-up features some of Ireland's most popular models.

The carmaker has sold over 9,000 fuel-powered and plug-in electric hybrids so far this year. The evergreen Corolla is still the most popular choice among Irish Toyota buyers.

Toyota's small hybrid SUVs have seen a notable rise in sales, with a nine per cent increase compared to last year. In particular, the Yaris Cross hybrid has seen a 40 per cent uptick in sales this year.
