Polestar 2 test drives in Dublin and Cork

Customers in Malahide can take the luxury EV for a spin from tomorrow.

Polestar Ireland has announced several upcoming test-drive events for the Polestar 2, with the first starting tomorrow (June 13) in Malahide. A further event in Cork is planned to get underway from June 28.

The Dublin event will run until June 18, while the Cork test drive will wrap up on July 2. The event is targeted at those with "a burning interest to experience the luxury EV brand".

Those interested are encouraged to book their slots on the Polestar website and are required to hold a full clean Irish driving licence before they can get behind the wheel.

Polestar and Ireland

Polestar launched in Ireland last year with the Polestar 2, a five-door crossover, its first car sold in the country.

More models have been introduced recently - such as the Polestar 3, a large electric SUV expected in Ireland in 2024. Three more electric performance cars are planned for release by 2026.

Polestar's cars aren't sold through a traditional dealer network but online through a completely digital process. Physical showrooms, dubbed 'Polestar Spaces', allow potential buyers to talk with Polestar specialists and arrange test drives.

The company - headquartered in Gothenburg - has expanded its worldwide presence in recent years and now operates in 27 markets globally, including North America, Europe and Asia Pacific.

Sustainability is one of the marque's key selling points - indeed, it plans to build a fully 'climate-neutral' production car without any off-sets by 2030.

The premium EV segment is a popular one in Ireland - and Polestar is well-placed to take advantage of its success. "It's clear there's huge appetite for new premium electric cars here in Ireland, so the arrival of Polestar couldn't be better-timed," said Kieran Campbell, market lead for Polestar Ireland, upon the brand's launch in the country.
