Citroen will use the 64th IAA Motor Show to lift the lid on its first full-hybrid car. Dubbed HYbrid4 the new system is shared with Peugeot and features a 160hp, 2.0-litre HDi engine with a 37hp electric motor fitted to the rear axle. Around town the new drivetrain can operate in Zero Emission Vehicle (ZEV) mode, but can also be combined with the diesel engine in Sport mode to deliver quicker responses via the combined 200hp of both powerplants. HYbrid4 models emit CO2 emissions as low as 99g/km.
The HYbrid4 drivetrain will be showcased in the third DS model from Citroen, the DS5. The new car, which is scheduled to hit showrooms early in 2012, sees the DS range move into the executive class. Featuring technologies such as Intelligent Traction Control, an automatic high-beam function that activates and deactivates depending on light conditions and surrounding traffic and a new Lane Departure Warning System, the new DS5 follows in the styling footsteps of previous DS models but adds a touch of class with premium materials like 'club' leather and aluminium to the interior.
Citroen's DS5 will not be alone on the stand in Frankfurt as it is set to be joined by the 300hp DS3 WRC rally car, the five-door DS4 and a limited edition DS3 built to mark the sales success of the model. This Ultra Prestige edition features distinctive 'watchstrap' leather upholstery, 17-inch diamond effect wheels in charcoal grey, 'Dark Chrome' finish to the wing mirrors, door strips and front grille and the 'Monogramme' roof décor that switches between matt and gloss finish depending on light conditions.
