ESB launches new rapid-charging hub near Dublin

Four new charging points capable of 200kW installed in Carrickmines Park.

The ESB has opened its latest high-powered charging hub, this time in Carrickmines Park, just off the M50 in south county Dublin.

100km in just six minutes

The new hub features four DC charging points capable of delivering a 200kW charge (depending on your car, and the local electricity supply conditions at any one time of course) and in the best-charging vehicles, one charger can add as much as 100km of extra range in as little as six minutes.

Carrickmines Park is a major shopping and leisure destination for south country Dublin, with more than six-million visitors per year on average.

40th ESB fast-charging hub

According to the ESB, this is the 40th fast-charging hub that it has installed in Ireland in the past two years, using funding from the Government’s Climate Action Plan. In addition, it has replaced over 250 AC chargers with newer technology and upgraded a further 52 AC chargers to faster 50kW and 100kW DC chargers.

John Byrne, Head of eMobility at ESB, said: “The addition of eight brand new high-power EV chargers in Carrickmines is a substantial step forward in providing the necessary charging infrastructure to citizens of Dublin and beyond. As the second High-Powered Charging Hub that we have opened in Dublin in recent weeks, our hubs at Carrickmines and Blanchardstown Centre are accessible to all EV drivers and will be instrumental in helping Ireland achieve its climate change goals.

“EVs represent an important part of the Irish car market and hubs like this are essential for drivers and show our dedication to ensuring the public charging network is accessible and able to support demand.”

Important charging base

Head of Sustainability for Carrickmines Park, Shane Caldwell said: "The ESB charging hub is a significant addition to Carrickmines Park and reflects our commitment towards a net zero economy. Our location makes us an important charging base for EV motorists. We are easily accessed off the M50 and there is plenty to do with shopping, dining, and restroom facilities for motorists to utilise whilst they wait. It is also an essential service for the locale, our visitors, and shoppers. Our ambition is to be among the greenest property companies in Europe and the installation of these chargers represents further progress towards that objective.”
