Mercedes-Benz T-Class launched in Ireland

Mercedes-Benz T-Class is the passenger version of the Citan van.

Mercedes-Benz Ireland has just launched the latest T-Class. It’s a compact van-based MPV with seats for five, and it shares its structure and engines with the commercial Citan van.

Looks bigger and grander than the Citan

Mercedes claims that styling tricks make the T-Class appear larger and grander than the Citan on which it’s based. It also says that it’s being aimed at families and ‘leisure enthusiasts with an active lifestyle.’

Boot space of up to 2,000 litres

Prices start from €42,350, and there’s an optional long-wheelbase model with seats for seven. All models come with twin sliding side doors, and the boot stretches from 520 litres to more than 2,000 litres, depending on what you do with the seats.

Two engine options

Mercedes Ireland is offering two engine options: a T160d diesel with 95hp or a T180 petrol with 131hp for the seven-seat model.

MBUX touchscreen

All versions get the MBUX digital system based around a basic seven-inch touchscreen with live internet connectivity features and smartphone connections. Analogue instruments are standard, but there is a digital display screen between those. Standard safety kit includes an electric parking brake, seven airbags, and numerous electronic driving assistance systems. Options include 17-inch alloy wheels, keyless-go, ambient lighting, and man-made leather seat upholstery.

Describing T-class as a ‘timely and worthy addition to the Mercedes-Benz portfolio’, their commercial vehicles sales manager, Fergus Conheady, said: “those for whom it will have significant appeal include school-going families and enthusiastic weekenders, from team players to the likes of paddle boarders and mountain bikers.”
