Over 270,000 examples of the Volkswagen Passat CC have found buyers around the world since the model was launched four years ago. Now the four-door coupé has been restyled and renamed, dropping the Passat to be known simply as the Volkswagen CC.
The new identity comes with a fresh face, featuring a different grille with strong horizontal lines and new bi-xenon headlamps. There is also a re-profiled bonnet and a new bumper with an extra air intake and chrome 'winglets' above the fog lamps.
At the rear the bumper has been redesigned to emphasise the car's width and there are new LED tail lamps. There are also re-profiled sills to give the CC a more modern silhouette.
The Irish engine range from launch consists of 140- and 170hp versions of the proven 2.0 TDI unit. Buyers can choose either engine with a six-speed manual gearbox, or the seven-speed DSG automatic. The more powerful version comes with the XDS electronic 'differential' for improved traction.
Equipment is likely to include a standard driver alert system as found on the Passat and four-way adjustable head rests for improved whiplash protection. Options include high-beam assist, blind spot monitoring and City Emergency Braking.
The Volkswagen CC makes its public debut at the Los Angeles International Auto Show this week. Sales in the USA will start in early 2012 with Irish dealers taking orders around the same time. The first cars are due in Ireland in March and prices will be announced shortly before the CC goes on sale.
