Toyota's Tokyo plans

Leaving the FT-86 aside, here's what Toyota has planned for the Tokyo Show.

Toyota has revealed a trio of concept cars ahead of the upcoming Tokyo Motor Show where it aims to 'reinforce its position as an environmental technology leader.'

Based on the Toyota iQ, and therefore closest to actually seeing production, the FT-EV III (Future Toyota - Electric Vehicle III) is a four-seat electric vehicle designed for short journeys. Powered by a lithium-ion battery, the FT-EV III has an estimated range of 105 kilometres. Toyota hints that the FT-EV III may see production as early as 2012.

The FCV-R (Fuel Cell Vehicle - Reality & Revolution) concept is said to point towards the launch of a fuel cell vehicle by 2015. The mid-sized saloon can accommodate four passengers and their required luggage and has a cruising distance of roughly 700 kilometres thanks to a fuel cell stack with a 70 MPa high-pressure hydrogen tank.

No real details on the final car, the Toyota Fun-Vii (Fun-Vehicle interactive internet) concept, and even the provided image does not give too much away. All Toyota is saying is that it heralds a 'vision of a future where people, cars and society are linked.' Right...

More details on these three cars and the rest of the Toyota range, including the final unveiling of the FT-86 and Prius C, when the Tokyo Motor Show kicks off on November 30.
