Volkswagen Ireland has released details of the revamped Polo line-up for 2012, and the big news is the arrival of the Cross Polo. The new model is said to bring a rugged and sporty character to the range and features suspension raised by 15mm, protective coverings to the lower half of the body and uniquely styled front lip and rear diffuser that give added underbody protection. Prices for the Cross Polo will start at €17,975 for the 1.2-litre, 70hp petrol powered model rising to €19,435 for the 75hp 1.2-litre diesel. With low CO2 emissions theses cars qualify for motor tax bands B and A respectively.
Sporting 17-inch 'Budapest' alloy wheels and roof rails that can carry up to 75kg the order books for the Cross Polo are now open ahead of expected deliveries in April.
The rest of the Polo range has also received a refresh with more standard equipment included for your money. The €14,930 Trendline specification now includes 15-inch alloy wheels, a leather steering wheel and front fog lights with fixed 'bending' lights as standard. Stump up the €16,995 asking price for Comfortline specification and you will be rewarded with 16-inch alloys, a leather-covered multifunction steering wheel, multi-function computer, parking sensors for the rear, a flat-tyre indicator and cruise control.
Buyers will be able to choose between a 1.2-litre petrol engine offering outputs of 60- or 70hp; a 1.4-litre 85hp (Band B) petrol engine with a seven-speed DSG transmission; or a 1.2-litre diesel engine (Band A) with 75hp.
The recent introduction of Volkswagen Bank means the Polo is now available from just €229 per month at a rate of 3.9 per cent.
