Geneva 2012 review: Range Rover Evoque Convertible

Open-topped Evoque divides opinion, but will be made.

What is it?

An open-topped Range Rover Evoque, obviously. Land Rover is technically calling the show car a concept, though a close look at it reveals that it's finished to production car standards - and we noticed images of a fabric roof raised in the car's publicity video. The Geneva car is based on the three-door Evoque Coupé and it features a new bottom-hinged boot door.

Why's it here?

To gauge public reaction, though we're pretty certain it'll go into production as is. It will go down a storm in markets like California. We are a little surprised that Land Rover has shown this car so soon after the launch of the regular Evoque.

Show stopper or floor filler?

The Convertible is way too interesting to be floor filler, but neither could you call it a show stopper. It certainly sparks debate and can only enhance sales of the hottest car of the year when it eventually hits showrooms.
