What is it?
Bigger than the Nissan Qashqai yet smaller than the Murano, with looks derived from the Juke, the Hi-Cross would initially seem to be just another SUV concept from the Japanese company. That is until you remember that Nissan actually does produce a vehicle that fits into that exact slot - the long forgotten X-Trail.
Why's it here?
Nissan says the Hi-Cross will preview a possible new design direction for the Juke, Qashqai and Murano lines but completely avoids any mention of the X-Trail. Power is provided by a hybrid powertrain that combines an electric motor with a 2.0-litre petrol engine overall offering the performance of a 2.5-litre engine with the economy and emissions of a smaller unit.
Show stopper or floor filler?
No doubting the Hi-Cross is a smart looking car and, despite the proportions (not that much bigger than standard Qashqai), it offers seating for seven people. Probably the star of the Nissan stand but in the grand scheme of things... bit of a filler.
