Given the leaky nature of this internet thingy, you won't be too surprised to hear that Lamborghini is bringing a high-performance SUV concept to Auto China in Beijing this week. Sticking with the bull naming convention it's called the Urus and here are the first official photographs and details.
As you'd expect, the Urus carries on with the current bold Lamborghini style, characterised by large air intakes at the front, trapezoidal shapes and muscular forms. Despite the SUV proportions the Urus manages to look very much like a Lamborghini. It appears more compact than it is, as at 4.99 metres long, it outstretches the Aventador, while being just 40mm narrower. It'll tower over half a metre above its supercar brother though.
Despite the size of the thing, Lamborghini reckons it'll be the most efficient vehicle in the class thanks to extensive use of carbon fibre. It'll be no slouch either with 600hp to play with. Lamborghini has not gone into any further detail on the engine, though we'd expect a twin-turbocharged V8 borrowed from Bentley and Audi. The Urus will feature full-time four-wheel drive.
Along with that, the show car combines variable ground clearance and active aerodynamics in an attempt to offer decent off-road ability without compromising its on-road performance.
Inside, the Urus is more extreme thanks to the exposed 'Forged Composite' carbon fibre structure. The bucket seats are partially covered in leather. Elsewhere, the controls and instrumentation are kept to a minimum, and there appears to be plenty of room for four occupants.
The tone of the press release points to this being far more than a one-off show car. Stephan Winkelmann, President and CEO of Automobili Lamborghini, commented: "The Urus is a very concrete idea for the future of Lamborghini - as a third model line and as the perfect complement to our super sports cars."
