What's the news?
In October of last year Volkswagen handed a Golf GTI to a team of its apprentices with a brief of coming up with their interpretation of a classic sports car. The nine apprentices, five men and four women all aged between 18 and 24, pooled their collective talents to build the Golf GTI Black Dynamic that was displayed at the GTI Meeting in Wörthersee, Austria this week.
Exterior
For the most part the apprentices choose to retain the GTI's body styling and instead enhanced it with strategically placed decorative trim. The bonnet has been coated in a flat anthracite film that has also been used to produce custom honeycomb graphics that run the length of the car.
Interior
If the exterior is restrained the inside is anything but. The GTI's standard sports seats have been trimmed in black and red Alcantara and leather, the interior door trim with decorative piping and the boot houses a 1,800-Watt sound system complete with nine speakers.
Mechanicals
It would appear that what most 18-24 year olds want is power - and lots of it. Not content with the 210hp offered by the standard GTI the 2.0-litre TFSI has been tuned to within an inch of its life and now puts out a whopping 360 of Wolfsburg's finest horses. To go with the power upgrade the brakes have also grown to an eight-piston system while a custom exhaust has also been fitted to give the Black Dynamic the sound to go with the power.
Elsewhere
The Black Dynamic was displayed alongside the more demure Concept White Golf GTI. Bathed in Oryx White matt paintwork the interior features contrasting black and red Nappa leather. Door sill trim panels with the GTI logo and honeycomb pattern in White Matt and Aluminium finish off the concept.
