Maserati makes a Fiat - or vice versa

Special edition Maserati-themed 500C revealed in Italy.

What's the news?

Among the historic sports cars at this year's Mille Miglia run in Italy Fiat showed the new Abarth 695 Maserati Edition.  It comes with special paint and interior trim.  The publicity material describes it as combining the comfort of a Gran Turismo with sporty performance and handling.

Exterior

The Maserati edition is only available with the open body of the Abarth 500C.  Paintwork is a special three-layer 'Pontevecchio Bordeaux' finish.  It also comes with special 17-inch alloy wheels with spokes that resemble the Maserati trident.

Interior

Cream leather is used to trim the cabin and the dashboard gets matt-finish carbon inserts.  The Maserati edition also gets a bespoke steering wheel and unique Jaeger instruments.  A numbered plaque attests to the car's limited edition status.

Mechanicals

Power comes from the 1.4-litre, 180hp T-Jet engine.  This drives through Fiat's five-speed paddle shift Competizione transmission.  A 'Record Monza' exhaust system is fitted for the special edition as are Koni dampers and Brembo brakes.

Data

A top speed of 225km/h and 0-100km/h in 6.95 seconds are claimed for the Maserati edition. Abarth models are not yet officially on sale in Ireland.
