Ferrari has released the first official pictures of something called the SP12 EC - a one-off special built for legendary guitarist Eric Clapton.
Based on the 458 Italia, the SP12 EC (for Eric Clapton) is a unique Ferrari inspired by Clapton's favourite Ferrari - the 512 BB, of which old Slowhand has owned three.
Designed by the Centro Stile Ferrari in collaboration with Pininfarina and the engineers from Maranello the SP12 EC's body is completely new and sports the 512 BB's trademark two-tone paint scheme. Despite having dropped a reputed €3.75 million on the car, which was produced under Ferrari's 'One-Off Programme', the Ferrari engineers could not squeeze a V12 engine into the body due to structural limitations, meaning Clapton has to make do with 570hp 4.5-litre V8 from the 458 Italia.
Other notable custom Ferraris include the Enzo-based P4/5 built for American financier James Glickenhaus and the 599-based Superamerica 45 of real estate magnate Peter Kalikow.
