Irish fans are set to flash the cash as they follow Trap's Army around Poland in this month's UEFA European Championships. In a survey carried out by Continental Tyres in conjunction with the You Boys in Green website (YBIG.ie) it emerged that 76 per cent of respondents who are planning on travelling to Poland will spend up to €2,000 for the trip. The remaining 24 per cent are likely to spend between €3,000 and €4,000.
The disparity could be down to the length of time fans plan to stay, with some budgeting for the three group games while others will stay in Poland until the Boys in Green come home. The vast majority (80 per cent) will fly to the games in Poznan and Gdansk, while a dedicated 10 per cent will recreate Joxer's memorable trip travelling in a van or camper. Just three per cent will drive to Poland by car.
"We are delighted to be associated with UEFA Euro 2012 which is going to be the high point of this summer," said Paddy Murphy of Continental Tyres Ireland. "For those fans either driving to Poland or planning on driving while they are there, we would urge them to keep the craic in its proper place, on the terraces and in the hostelries, but when behind the wheel, to always follow the rules of the road, obey the speed limits and be courteous. And of course, never ever drink and drive. You are representing your country lads!"
