Gazoo Racing develops 320hp GT86 for Goodwood

Supercharger and turbocharger for special Toyota GT86.

What's the news?
Gazoo Racing - Toyota's unofficial racing division - will bring a 320hp version of the Toyota GT86 to this year's Goodwood Festival of Speed. The GRMN (Gazoo Racing Meister of Nürburgring) Sports FR Concept made its public debut at the recent 24 Hours of Nürburgring endurance race, but will venture to England in July to tackle Goodwood House's famous hill climb.

Exterior
To fit wider wheels to the Sports FR, Gazoo has added a wide-body kit complete with new front and back bumpers. The rear item now houses quad exhaust pipes while the front end has been designed to funnel air into the engine bay.

Interior
As befitting a car that made its debut at the most fearsome race track in the world the interior of the Sports FR has been heavily modified with bucket seats, four-point seatbelts, a roll cage and extra instrumentation that measures boost pressure, water temperature and oil temperature. The cabin is trimmed in leather-style buckskin fabric.

Mechanicals
To boost power from the standard cars 200- to 320hp Gazoo Racing has fitted both a turbo- and supercharger to the flat-four engine that is said to boost the car's performance "across the rev range". In addition to boosting the horsepower the twin - or compound - charging, has also sorted out the complaint that some have had of the standard car: that of the lack of torque. The figure has more than doubled from 205- to 421Nm and is fed to the rear wheels via a six-speed manual transmission. No official word on the Sports FR's performance but it should be noticeably quicker than the standard car, which covers the 0-100km/h sprint in 7.7 seconds.

To go with the power the Sports FR's suspension has also been revised, larger brakes fitted to rein the car in and 18-inch alloys with 265-section tyres at the rear fitted for extra grip.

Anything else?
No word yet on whether or not the modifications shown on the Sports FR will be officially offered but it is known that Toyota is working on tuning packages for the GT86, including a supercharger that will add 50hp.
