Toyota has released details of the first official factory-fit aero-kit for its GT86 sports coupé. Available from today (June 18) on the Australian market the aggressive looking kit has been designed to reduce drag and increase downforce.
The complete kit consists of a new front bumper, side skirts, rear bumper and a large rear spoiler. Toyota claims that it has been extensively tested in a wind tunnel and at the track. The testing showed that the kit improves handling stability of Toyota's rear-drive coupé.
The improvement is down to the design of the kit that includes dual canards on the front bumper to boost downforce and a rounded edge on the side skirts that allows airflow from the front wheel housing to move freely. The rear bumper also has a profile that projects horizontally, to manage air turbulence from the front and assist in evacuating under-body airflow.
Toyota has previewed tuning concepts from both its tuning division TRD and its race partners Gazoo Racing but this aero kit is the first official package made available by the company. We were recently told that a supercharger kit that could add 50hp so it looks that Toyota may be serious about the GT86 becoming the next tuner car - we just have to hope these parts make it to Ireland.
