Only months after agreeing a sponsorship deal with Manchester United, Chevrolet has announced a similar tie up with great rivals Liverpool.
The agreement will see the American car brand act as the Official Automotive Partner for the Anfield Road club through to the end of the 2015/16 season. For its part Liverpool will display Chevrolet branded hoarding at all home games, provide editorial opportunities within its print and online publications and, probably most importantly, commercial appearances by its players like the ones that accompany this story.
This announcement was made as Liverpool continues its pre-season tour of North America, of which Chevrolet is also an official sponsor. Speaking at the press conference to mark the partnership Chris Perry, Global Chevrolet Marketing Vice President said: "Liverpool supporters from around the world are known for their undying love of their side. Our relationship with Liverpool FC extends beyond the traditional boundaries of sponsorship and is about engaging with supporters."
So nothing to do with tapping into the 200 or so officially recognised fan clubs spread across 30 countries then?
For its part Liverpool was equally as glowing of its new partner with Managing Director Ian Ayre saying: "Much like our Club, Chevrolet has a long, rich history with a growing, global brand and this landmark partnership once again demonstrates the value of Liverpool's international appeal."
