What's the news?
Toyota Motorsport GmbH (TMG) will show off its entry-level rally car the TMG Yaris R1A at the ADAC Rallye Deutschland on 24 August. Designed to provide an affordable route into rallying the package is available, including donor car but without tax or fitting, for roughly €22,000.
Exterior
There aren't many changes to the three-door Yaris on the outside. The conversion does include height adjustable suspension for different surfaces though. A safety cut-out switch is fitted and the underside gets guards to protect the sump, petrol tank and fuel lines.
Interior
A full complement of safety equipment is fitted, including rally seats with harnesses, fire extinguishers and a bolt-in roll-cage.
Mechanicals
Only limited mechanical modifications are permitted under the regulations. The 1.3-litre engine gets a free-flowing catalytic converter and sports exhaust. Power output is 99hp and drive goes through the standard six-speed gearbox to a shorter final drive.
Anything else?
The TMG Yaris R1A is expected to be the first car to be homologated to the FIA R1A (up to 1,400cc) class before the end of the year. For the ADAC Rallye Deutschland the Yaris will run as a 'zero car' - a course vehicle used at the beginning of each stage to confirm the conditions as safe.
