What's the news?
After an initial 1,300 sales, Lamborghini's Aventador has spawned an even more outrageously styled sibling - the LP 700-4 Roadster.
Exterior
Let's get the obvious difference out of the way first: the roof comes off. Unfortunately, as is typically the case with big, convertible Lambos, the two-piece carbon-fibre arrangement has to be removed manually as opposed to electrically; and it is stored in the luggage compartment. A new rear pillar and tailgate are also fitted.
Each car comes in a two-tone colour scheme, with the top half of each model painted in gloss black. A new, very light metallic blue called Azzuro Thesis has been introduced for the Roadster - inspired by the Miura Roadster of 1968. New 20- or 21-inch Dione alloy wheels are also standard.
Interior
The Aventador Roadster houses the same interior styling and equipment as the coupé version; however, a new style of Sabbia Nefertem leather is available. Lamborghini claims that the new trim complements the exclusive Azzuro Thesis exterior paint finish.
Mechanicals
A 700hp, 6.5-litre V12 engine running through a seven-speed ISR gearbox means the Roadster is not a slouch. The 0-100km/h sprint is dealt with in three seconds, and top speed is some 350km/h. Environmentally conscious cylinder deactivation and stop-start systems are both standard features too: a world-first in the supercar market.
Anything else?
For those with a spare €300,000 (plus VRT etc...) the Aventador Roadster will almost certainly be money well spent. Order books are open now worldwide.
