What's the news?
Peugeot has released details of a crossover version of its newly released 208. Dubbed the 2008, the model has been designed to slot in beneath the larger 3008.
Exterior
In terms of style, it's clear that the new model is closely related to the Peugeot 208. The grille, headlamps and rear light clusters are all very similar in shape. However, there's a bit more chrome to be found on the 2008. Being a crossover, it rides higher than the 208 and has flared wheel arches. Buyers can spec 'Mud & Snow' tyres and 17-inch alloy wheels too. Black plastic plates and under body protection has also been installed to avoid damaging knocks, while the roof features an RCZ-inspired 'double bubble'.
Interior
Trim and specification details have yet to be released for the 2008; although we do know that some versions will be fitted with a panoramic roof, which should help make the cabin feel more spacious. We also know that the 2008 has been designed with a low load bay to make filling the boot easier.
Mechanicals
In terms of engines, Peugeot has told us that the latest generation units will be fitted to the 2008, including e-HDi diesel engines and three-cylinder petrol units. Emissions figures are also said to start from 99g/km.
The 2008 will also come with the Grip Control System from the 3008 for when conditions get unfavourable, which suggests that four-wheel drive will not be offered.
Anything else?
The Peugeot 2008 will make its official world debut at the Geneva Motor Show in March. First deliveries are expected by the end of the summer.
