What's the news?
Audi has released details of its forthcoming S3 Sportback. Upgrades come both visually and mechanically over the standard model; and we're expecting it to hit Irish shores later this year.
Exterior
Naturally, the car receives a full bespoke body kit, and 18-inch alloy wheels come as standard. The front grille is a blend of aluminium and matte grey, and there are air intakes found on both the bumper and on each wing. A spoiler protrudes from the roof at the back; and the restyled rear bumper houses a diffuser-insert and chrome quad tailpipes. A choice of 14 colours can be had and Audi highlights the crystal-effect Estoril Blue and Panther Black finishes.
Optional extras include red brake callipers and an LED headlight upgrade.
Interior
Sports seats have been fitted to the S3 as standard, with diamond-quilted S-sport seats an optional extra. A multifunctional flat-bottomed steering wheel can also be had, which sits in front of white-on-grey dials. The rest of the dashboard features inserts in either brushed matte aluminium or a 3D-effect black look. A full-colour driver information system comes as standard; and various stereo upgrades can be specified, including the MMI Navigation Plus with MMI Touch and Audi Connect. Adaptive cruise control is also on the options list.
Mechanicals
The 300hp, 2.0-litre, turbocharged engine powering the S3 Sportback is an all-new unit. Equipped with the six-speed S-Tronic gearbox, the S3 Sportback will get from 0-100km/h in 5.0 seconds and go on to a limited 250km/h top speed. As well as this, Audi is claiming a respectable 34mpg combined cycle economy figure.
To help drivers get the most out of the engine, Audi has fitted quattro all-wheel drive, a tweaked chassis and suspension set up and Audi's drive select as standard. Drivers can also show-off in confidence at the lights thanks to the S3's launch control system.
Anything else?
The new S3 Sportback is scheduled to hit Irish showrooms in September.
