Porsche 911 GT3 to debut in Geneva?

Porsche hints at new road-going 911 GT3 for Geneva debut.

The Porsche stand at this year's Geneva Motor Show is scheduled to play host to two world debuts.

The first vehicle has been shrouded in mystery, with Porsche only saying that 'the car's driving dynamics and driving excitement are at an even higher level than before'. It is believed to be the first ever appearance of the latest road-going 911 GT3 - a car that will certainly get pulses racing if the rumours turn out to be true.

We know that the new GT3 will be the first of its kind to feature a PDK automatic gearbox instead of a traditional manual transmission; and power is expected to be around the 450hp mark. We wouldn't be surprised if Porsche hasn't knocked some weight off compared to the previous version either, which should help to drop the GT3's 0-100km/h time to under four seconds. The top speed is also expected to be closer to 320km/h.

The second confirmed debut is the first public showcase of the latest generation 911 GT3 Cup, a car that is set to make its racing debut in the 2013 International Porsche Supercup. An output figure of 460hp comes from the car's 3.8-litre flat-six engine, which should provide a 0-100km/h time of around 3.5 seconds.

These two debuts will help to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the 911, a car that was first unveiled at the Frankfurt Motor Show in 1963. Since then, numerous variations and models have been built with the basic shape and engine layout remaining the same. Since the official showroom launch in September 1964, over 820,000 911s have been built making it the most successful sports car ever made.

The Geneva Motor Show opens to the public from 7th-17th March, with Porsche's press conference scheduled for 5th March at 10:45.
