Porsche and Martini renew relationship

Martini celebrates 150th by signing up to sponsor Porsche racing.

In the history of modern motorsport there have been several long-standing sponsorship agreements, but few stand out in as many race fans' memories as the iconic Martini liveried Porsches. Now, as part of Martini's 150th anniversary celebrations, the drinks company has again linked up with the German sports car manufacturer.

Barcelona's Catalunya circuit will be the opening stage for the Porsche Mobil 1 Supercup on May 12. Marking the occasion, nine-time world rally champion Sébastien Loeb will get behind the wheel of a Porsche 911 GT3 Cup Car that will wear the famous Martini racing stripes. Despite being exceptionally talented on the loose stuff, Loeb is no stranger when it comes to track-based motorsport; the Frenchman has competed in endurance racing and will later this year take on the famous Pikes Peak Hillclimb. Owing to a busy schedule, the 39-year-old will compete in just two rounds of the Porsche Supercup: the opening event in Barcelona and Monte Carlo on May 26.

The Martini striped GT3 Cup Car will also make an appearance for the Italian (and Martini's home) round at Monza later in the year on September 8th. A second driver, yet to be named, will take things up behind the wheel for that race.

Jonas Krauss, Head of Porsche Mobil 1 Supercup, said: "From the first day the beloved stripes of Martini Racing decorated a Porsche 906 in 1968, the illustrious pairing has gone on to claim some of motorsport's most coveted titles, including numerous Le Mans 24 hours titles, during what is now considered to be a classic period of motorsport.  We're excited to be once again partnering with Martini in its 150 Anniversary year."
