BMW teases new Pininfarina coupé

One-off BMW-Pininfarina coupé to be revealed at Concorso d'Eleganza Villa d'Este.

As they did in 2012, BMW and Pininfarina have come together to build a car for the Concorso d'Eleganza Villa d'Este. Hailed as 'the sequel' to last year's Zagato Coupé, the BMW Pininfarina Gran Lusso Coupé is said to be the next step in the design approach for BMW.

But could it be more than that?

The Gran Lusso Coupé is described as 'straddling the automotive past and future' with the design 'ready to join the high-end luxury class'. Now we are not sure about you but that screams 8 Series to us, a fact further reinforced by the V12 engine that resides under the long bonnet of the long wheelbase coupé. BMW quickly quashes this idea by describing the creation as a one-off, but we can but dream.

Little can be truly taken from the teaser images, but the swooping roofline, stretched bonnet and short overhangs not only evoke traditional BMW hallmarks but also hint at the performance of the luxury coupé.

On the inside, the BMW Gran Lusso Coupe is said to blend themes of elegance and luxury. The minimalist and driver-focused layout of the classic BMW cabin is lent a thoroughly new touch through the influence of Pininfarina, though we'll have to wait until the car is officially unveiled to see what that entails.
