Kia Carens arrives in Ireland

New Kia Carens will go on sale next week in Ireland from €26,490.

What's the news?
Kia's new Carens turned up for a photo call at Wicklow RFC ahead of the model's official launch next week. Brand ambassador Sean O'Brien, Leinster and Lions star, was on hand with members of Wicklow RFC Minis to demonstrate the MPV's seven-seats. Prices for the new Carens start at €26,490.

Exterior
The new Carens is more compact than its predecessor but with a longer wheelbase to increase interior space. It is designed to look less utilitarian than the outgoing model too; Kia's Chief Design Officer, Peter Schreyer, described the look as 'athletic and dynamic'. Standard features on the entry level TX model include alloy wheels, rear spoiler and LED running lights. Next in the range is the EX, which can be identified by LED rear lights, rear privacy glass and rear parking sensors. Range-topping Platinum versions add front parking sensors, HID lights and a panoramic sunroof.

Interior
All models come with electric windows front and rear, steering mounted audio controls and voice activated Bluetooth. The EX adds seat back tables, dual-zone climate control and a rear view camera. Luxury features on the Platinum include heated leather seats with power adjustment for the driver and a 'super vision' instrument cluster.

Mechanicals
The Carens shares its 1.7-litre diesel engine with the Kia Sportage. Carbon dioxide emissions are 129g/km, which means annual road tax will cost €270.

Anything else?
Prices for the EX and Platinum versions are €27,790 and €31,790 respectively. Click here for our first drive of the new Kia Carens.
