Mercedes' plans for Pebble Beach week in the USA

Here's what Mercedes-Benz has in store for visitors to this week's Pebble Beach event.

What's the news?
Mercedes-Benz will celebrate the heritage of the S-Class range at Pebble Beach with a display of models including the latest S 550 and S 63 AMG 4Matic. Seven versions of the S-Class will be showcased in the Mercedes-Benz Star Lounge on the third fairway of the Pebble Beach links. Also on show in the lounge is the GLA concept, previewing the small new SUV recently revealed in production-ready guise.

The AMG S-Class is making its world debut ahead of its first motor show appearance in Frankfurt next month. Two other AMG Mercedes will appear alongside the S-Class at the Quail Motorsports Gathering today (August 16).

Pebble Beach is known as a classic car event and Mercedes hasn't forgotten its older models. Part of the Star Lounge is dedicated to the Mercedes-Benz 'Classic Center' with historic models for sale. Two 1955 300SL coupés and a 1971 300 SEL 6.3 are available as well as a 1979 450 SL that was restored by the Mercedes-Benz Classic Center in California.

Anything else?
For the Concours d'Elegance on Sunday (August 18) the two surviving Benz Prinz Heinrich cars will share the field. Both vehicles are described as 'museum quality' with the dark green number 38 car coming from the company museum in Stuttgart, while the other car is from the Louwman Museum in The Hague, Netherlands.
