AXA set to offer discounts to electric drivers

Twenty per cent premium discount for drivers of electric vehicles from AXA Insurance.

What's the news?
AXA Insurance has announced the launch of a motor insurance offering that will see electric car drivers avail of a 20 per cent reduction in their premiums. The new scheme, open to existing and new AXA customers, is just another way for motorists to save money by going electric.

"The Government has set a target of ensuring that 10 per cent of all passenger vehicles (230,000 vehicles) are electric by 2020. At AXA we are keen to support this initiative," commented Colm McGrattan, Executive Director at AXA. "This new electric vehicle policy has been developed by AXA as part of our group initiatives to reduce our carbon footprint. We are continuously looking at ways to benefit and reward our customer base and working with the ESB on our Electric Vehicle offering is an excellent example of this."

Anything else?
In addition to offering electric car drivers cheaper insurance AXA is also getting involved in the electric vehicle programme in Ireland and has just acquired the first Renault Zoe to arrive on Irish shores.

The all-electric Zoe will be available to employees from the firm's car-pooling scheme with charging available for the car via a recently installed charging point at company headquarters. The idea is that employees attending meetings and events will use the Zoe's 210km range rather than a petrol- or diesel powered car.
