What is it?
The Peugeot HR1 is the French company's latest small green concept car (it's rather fond of them), but the car is surprisingly production viable. Mostly. Nintendo Wii-inspired stereo controls aside, the petrol-electric drivetrain and mini-SUV styling are particularly on trend right now.
Why's it here?
Peugeot clearly wants a slice of the city-car-SUV-coupé-crossover market, spearheaded by Nissan's Juke. There's also talk of the HR1 previewing styling elements of the 207 replacement. Its 110hp 1.2-litre three-cylinder petrol engine is new, and linked to a 40hp electric motor on the rear axle. Four-wheel drive it is then, and it returns 3.5 litres/100km (81mpg) and emits just 80g/km.
Show stopper or floor filler?
It's turning heads, for sure, not least because of its bottom-hinged scissor-type doors. The interior does away with buttons and instead uses a motion sensor to detect hand gestures; twist your wrist to turn the stereo up - that sort of thing. The rear seats pack away neatly too, liberating more luggage space.
