Audi concept pays homage to original Quattro

Stunning Audi quattro concept debuts the night before Paris show.

What is it?

A chisel-jawed, blister-arched vision of Audi quattro-ness in concept form. Audi is officially saying that this concept (based on a shortened A5 platform) isn't headed for production, but we can't understand why not. Apparently it debuts a new direction for Audi's design, but judging by the reaction it got at the show Audi needs to produce this car.

Why's it here?

To look into Audi's future. We really hope that means a production version sometime soon, as we rather like the idea of a 1,300kg, 410hp five-cylinder turbocharged, four-wheel drive machine in Audi's showrooms. Or on a forest stage, in Audi's rally livery. Seriously, it's a fantastic looking concept, which we'd buy in a heartbeat if Audi can be persuaded to make it.

Show stopper or floor filler?

If this doesn't have every car-mad person of around 30 to 40 years old dribbling in anticipation of an ür-Quattro replacement then we don't know what will. This is the hottest Audi we've seen since the R8 arrived, making it a real show stopper. It'd be even more impressive going very sideways through a snowy forest with a Finn behind the wheel.
