What's the news?
Wow. Jaguar Land Rover, as a company, seriously doesn't hang about. No sooner had we been given notice that it was setting up an AMG-rivalling tweaking and tuning divisions, Special Vehicle Operations (SVO), than the first car from that team was revealed - the Jaguar F-Type Project 7 roadster.
Now comes the second, and sexy though the Jag is, we reckon this is going to be the car to put SVO on the map - it's the Range Rover SVR. Details are still a little scant, and the car that will make its run up the Goodwood hill will be a heavily disguised prototype, but the engine is most definitely a tuned version of Land Rover's supercharged 5.0-litre V8, pumping out at least 550hp.
There are no official details on performance or price, but Land Rover has said that any vehicle that will wear the SVR badge will have to be able to meet a strictly laid down set of performance criteria, benchmarks that presumably this hot Rangie will set. Land Rover claims it will be the fastest, most agile and responsive product it has ever made.
Anything else?
There'll be lots of other Land Rover goodies to have a look at in Goodwood, including the 25th anniversary Discovery XXV, special editions of the Freelander and Range Rover Sport and the high-performance Defender-based Bowler racing off-roaders will be performing leaps and jumps on a special stage near the rally section of the event.
