What's the news?
Mazda is to unveil the fourth generation MX-5 at simultaneous events in Barcelona, Japan and the United States as it marks the 25th anniversary of the best-selling two-seat sports car in the world. Scheduled to take place on September 3 and 4 this year, the official unveiling will be followed by a special MX-5 enthusiast event with fans of the small Mazda travelling from all over Europe to take part in the 'Long live the Roadster' event.
Mazda has already revealed the SkyActiv chassis for the car and said that the new model will be at least 100kg lighter than before while packing more power, but the design remains under wraps. "The MX-5 is the product that best epitomises Mazda's convention-defying spirit and our love of driving," says Mazda Motor Europe President and CEO Jeff Guyton. "It has been grabbing people's attention for 25 years, and with the new-generation model we're aiming to share this passion with yet another generation of drivers."
Anything else?
The fourth generation model has been developed in conjunction with Fiat and will spawn either a Fiat or Alfa Romeo badged sibling.
