What are we looking at?
The Lamborghini Asterion - a one -off plug-in hybrid 'technology demonstrator'. In keeping with Lamborghini's traditional naming of a car after a bull the Asterion was a Minotaur: a 'hybrid' of a bull and a human. We see what you did there Lambo!
What's the best thing about it?
You mean we need to go beyond the looks? How about a 610hp version of the Italian's regular 5.2-litre V10 engine and a trio of electric motors that together develop 300hp? Doing the sums that is a 910hp hybrid. Sounds like the LaFerrari/P1/918 right? Well according to Lamborghini the Asterion is not about setting lap records but more the ultimate luxury cruiser - on the Autostrada obviously.
In standard mode the Asterion sends power to all four wheels and Lamborghini claims a 0-100km/h time of 3.0 seconds and top speed of 320km/h, but it is the front-wheel drive mode of the Asterion that is most impressive. In this all-electric mode the Asterion has a range of 50 kilometres and a top speed of 125km/h. Combined fuel consumption is said to be 4.2 litres/100km (67mpg) with emissions of just 98g/km.
Show stopper or floor filler?
Do you really need to ask? It is a 910hp hybrid Lamborghini that can do 0-100km/h in 3.0 seconds yet has lower emissions than most diesel superminis. Show stopper all the way.
