Audi TT gains some doors

TT Sportback expands the TT brand, muddies the Audi saloon waters.

What are we looking at?

This is the Audi TT Sportback, Audi's attempt to expand the TT beyond its traditional coupé and Roadster boundaries and into the realms of the fully-fledged sub-brand.

What's the best thing about it?

As with almost any Audi, this is about sharply-contoured Bauhaus styling. It may be a stretch of the imagination to see this as a true TT, but it's a gorgeous, low-slung five-door lift-back even so. From the massive, six-point grille to the shallow glass, to the frameless doors, this is a really handsome car. Audi says it's a concept for now, but we'd be amazed if this 400hp, S tronic, quattro four-door coupé doesn't make it into production, and pretty soon.

It won't be the last expansion of the TT family either, as Audi is planning an SUV TT too... "In our TT Sportback we are revealing a new member of a potential TT family," said Audi research and development boss Ulrich Hackenberg. He's said similar about the TT allroad and TT offroad concepts...

Show stopper or filler?

Stopper, without question.
