Volkswagen Group has announced the appointment of BMW development chief Dr. Herbert Diess to its management board. As part of his capacity as a member of the Group Board of Management he will take over as chairman of Volkswagen's passenger car brand from 1 October, 2015 - a position that is currently held by Dr. Martin Winterkorn.
Commenting on the appointment, Winterkorn said, "With Herbert Diess we will be welcoming an outstanding personality and one of the most capable minds in the automotive industry to our Company. At the same time, this step puts the executive management of both the Group and the brand on an even broader footing."

Although Dr. Winterkorn will step down from the position of Volkswagen chairman, he will remains CEO of the Volkswagen Group, which also includes the Audi, Bentley, Bugatti, Lamborghini and Porsche brands.
