What's the news?
Mitsubishi's much-loved workhorse will be replaced later this year with the new fifth generation model.
The popular commercial gets a new look, improved interior and equipment as well as the promise of increased refinement and comfort. Add more capacity, in both the flatbed of the pickup itself and towing capacity and environmental improvements to push it to the top of its class and the L200 looks set to continue its success.
Power comes from a re-developed 2.4-litre MIVEC turbodiesel engine offered with either 154hp or 181hp. Stop/start technology helps deliver a best in class 169g/km CO2 emissions figure with the six-speed manual transmission.
The new L200 will also be offered with a five-speed automatic transmission, it being the first vehicle in its class to offer paddle-shifters mounted on the steering wheel. Featuring the same Super Select four-wheel drive II system as its Shogun relation there's a choice of four modes, including a two-wheel drive mode for maximum efficiency.
Improved refinement comes from more acoustic material throughout, while new engine and body mounts, as well as revised suspension all add to the L200's comfort. Mitsubishi is claiming the L200 is more car like than ever to drive, with sharper steering thanks to a quicker rack from lock-to-lock and a turning circle tighter than any of its rivals. Seven airbags head the impressive improved safety equipment list, the L200 also featuring Trailer Stability Assist and a lane departure warning system.
