What's the news?
Fiat has announced that its new small van, the Doblo Cargo, is now officially on sale in Ireland. The new model will feature a range of updated engines as well as some new safety systems, all of which are designed to make the Doblo Cargo a better overall package for business users.
Exterior
Fiat has given the Doblo Cargo a fresh new look, which replicates the style already seen in the larger Ducato van. A more contoured bonnet design accommodates new headlight units and a restyled grille that gives the van a wider and more distinctive appearance. There will be four body styles to choose from, two roof height options and two wheelbase lengths.
Interior
Little has changed inside the cabin of the Doblo Cargo from a visual perspective but Fiat's engineers have made improvements to its refinement levels. In response to customer feedback, there is now more sound insulation , which has resulted in an average reduction in noise levels by 3dB. Alterations have also been made to the gear change and clutch pedal in a bid to improve overall feel.
The load area in the Doblo Cargo is capable of carrying up to one tonne and features a flat floor and sides, which have minimal wheel arch intrusions. Rear doors open to a useful 180 degrees making it easier to load in bulkier items.
Mechanicals
An updated range of engines will be welcome news. Both the 90hp 1.3- and 105hp 1.6-litre diesel engines have been tuned to deliver increased responsiveness, producing more torque at lower engine speeds while also improving efficiency by up to 12 per cent. These engines can also be equipped with the 'EcoJet' option that offers reduced fuel consumption and emission levels using a stop-start system, lower rolling resistance tyres, lower viscosity engine oil, an 'intelligent' alternator along with a variable-displacement oil pump and an aerodynamic pack to reduce drag.
There is also a range of safety features incorporated into the new Doblo Cargo. In addition to the usual ABS anti-lock brakes and ASR traction control, these include hydraulic brake assist and a hill-start system. Fiat is introducing a new, advanced traction system called Traction+, that it claims will give drivers greater levels of grip on poor surfaces such as snow or mud without the need for a heavy all-wheel drive system.
Anything else?
Pricing for the Doblo Cargo will start at €13,850 and it will be available to order in two trim levels, Standard and SX. Standard equipment on both models includes central locking, electric windows and a speed limiter upon request. The SX model adds a PVC lining to the load area and additional soundproofing, electrically adjustable and heated door mirrors, remote central locking and an upgraded stereo.
